Green IT The Best Practices Collection 2010

Produced in October 2010 by Japan's Green IT Promotional Council, this collection has over 120 examples of both "Green of IT" and "Green by IT".   The collection should provide strong momentum for Green IT for all end users, and should be referenced in designing new government programs in Japan for reduced CO2 emissions.   Included are papers by DESC members Cisco, Microsoft, Intel, and HP.

Cisco Driving Efficiency and Reducing Travel through Innovative Technologies

Company’s “Carbon to Collaboration” initiated a $20 million investment in collaborative technologies to reduce the need for physical travel – air travel alone represented just over half of Cisco’s total carbon emissions.

Also introduced the Connected Urban Development Initiative, which worked with cities like Amsterdam, Seoul and San Francisco to employ technology such as GPS, Radio Frequency Identification, wireless communication and broadband in transportation systems to reduce congestion and increase transportation efficiency
